Beacon of Light Mental Health Ministry is proud to host our annual conference this fall in partnership with the DFW Spiritual Care Network, bringing together faith leaders, mental health and addiction professionals, civic leaders, and members of the community for a day focused on some of the most pressing mental health challenges facing our communities.
The 2026 Beacon of Light Conference will take place Thursday, November 5, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Methodist Church in Plano.
Throughout the day, experts and community leaders will explore issues including mental wellness, trauma, suicide prevention, overdose awareness, substance use, and relationships—with an important emphasis on building stronger bridges between mental health care, community resources, and faith.
Education, Resources and Connection
The conference is designed for anyone who wants to better understand mental health challenges and become more prepared to respond—whether as a faith leader, mental health professional, community leader, or concerned family or community member.
Attendees will hear from experienced professionals and subject matter experts, including Rev. Allyson Johnson; Dr. Garrett Woods, PhD; Sandi Morse, LCSW-S; Bryna Talamantez, LMFT; Theresa Little; Dr. Shelia E. Lumar, Ph.D., LPC-S; Shirley Weddle (suicide survivor); Brittany Tinsley (author/speaker) and more -- and an expert panel addressing some of the top mental health issues affecting our community.
Continuing Education Credit will also be available for qualifying professionals.
Beyond the educational sessions, attendees will have an opportunity to connect directly with organizations providing help throughout North Texas. More than 20 resource tables will feature nonprofit organizations, treatment centers, counselors, hospitals, and other community programs. These connections can help individuals, families, churches, and professionals better understand the treatment and support resources available in our area.
Bringing Faith and Mental Health Together
For churches and faith leaders in particular, the conference offers an opportunity to learn more about the mental health and substance use challenges affecting the people they serve—and to build relationships with professionals and organizations equipped to help.
“This unique event is an opportunity for concerned community members and churches in DFW to come together about current topics regarding mental health, suicide and the overdose crisis in our community,” said Eric Ayles, President of the Spiritual Care Network. “We are excited to partner with these organizations to help save lives.”
At Beacon of Light, we believe churches can play an important role in creating communities where people feel safe asking for help and can be connected to appropriate care.
